Finally got to see Buckingham Palace!!! It was actually a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be. It was so cool because all of a sudden we came out of a side street on to the royal mile and I was like I have seen this on TV after the Royal Wedding. Yeah I freaked out!!
It was a down pour today!! It really hasn’t rained a lot till today but we went on a 3 hour walk and ended up soaking wet. It was for our London walks class. Big Ben is covered so we don’t get to see it on our trip which is too bad. We then went to the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery located in Trafalgar square. I have a huge paper due on the Stuarts and the Portrait Gallery had a exhibit on them that I had to go see. It was then a rush to get back home and do homework.

So fun!! We went to the Bank Museum which sounds kinda lame but it was super fun. I got to hold a gold bar which is worth $600,000!!!!!! It had a lot of fun little games and activities to see. There was a safe that if you could crack it you got a free pen!
Today we awesome and not great. During out walk we saw a famous person! First one on the trip! It was so funny I put it out there that I wanted to see a famous person and then 15 mins later we see one. I wanted pasta for dinner and today we got pasta!? How ?!!! Then we were like I wish we had desert and 1 min later the dumb waiter dinged with desert. So I’m putting out there what I want and hoping it comes back to me. I put out there that I wanted a good grade but I didn’t get that so it doesn’t work all the time. So awesome to see a famous person since I have never seen one.
Emily and I were on one of the walks for our class. We were just walking past a taxi and this guy was talking to the driver. It wasn’t very busy around, so I noticed him more and I was like that looks like that one actor. Emily didn’t think so but then she was like wait hold up. And sure, enough it was Josh Duhamel!! He is in transformers and safe haven. We didn’t get a picture because he was busy and felt bad taking a photo of him without permission. I just feel like it is kinda of an invasion of privacy and I’m sure it gets annoying. There was a lady with a camera by us who confirmed that it was Josh and that he could totally take a photo with us but then he went to lunch. We were right across the street from the Tower of London. We walked past a little park near the tower and saw another camera guy. We asked what he was filming and at first said a Mayonnaise commercial and we were like really?? That sounds unlikely. He then said okay it is really for the show “Who do you think you are?” and they are doing an episode of Josh that will air next year. Overall today was great but my essay got a bad score just like everyone else on the trip. The teachers are really harsh graders so everyone is struggling. We had church early in the morning and then headed out for walk. I have to do 2 more walks for the one class here in London and we live right next to Kensington Garden, so we picked that one since it was close.
The park was really busy. The people I went with said it was the busiest they had seen it. It is like one giant dog park!!! So many dogs! I saw a corgi, so my day was made. I was surprised by the park. I thought that it was going to be really groomed with clean lines, but it really wasn’t. It had a lot of fallen trees and was really cold. There were birds everywhere and if you didn’t know me and birds do not get along. A lot of pigeons and swans. It was cool to see the gardens but I still want to see the Queens Garden and Hype Park before we leave. We left our hotel in Newcastle to Fountains Abbey. It was really cool and so pretty. There was no one besides our group and it was so large so after like 15 mins everyone spread out so that was really nice. Most places we go are like stay off the grass and no walking on the ruins but at the Abbey you could literally climb all over and they were okay with that.
Then we went to York. It was an okay town I like Edinburgh a lot more. We went to the York Minister Cathedral. It looks old but the inside is almost all recently rebuilt after several fires and bombs. It was a lot of driving but we have a million essays due so we are all trying to do homework on the bus. The seats are so close that you can’t open your laptop all the way and your arms end up being like a T-Rex all short and next to you. It is hilarious to watch everyone try to write essays but it is also annoying but what can you do. We tried to watch more episodes of North and South because we are talking about the industrial revolution in England but the second disk was really scratched. We got back really late and are tired from the trip but it was really fun! We left our hotel early to get to the Edinburgh Castle. Just walking to the castle was cool because there was bagpipes playing and all the shops had plaid in the windows. It has such a different feel from England and all the other places we have visited. It was really cold and window since we were just miles from the coast. It really was such a pretty city and if it wasn’t so cold I would love to live there.
We went to the Elephant Café which is where J.K. Rowling wrote Harry Potter. It was cool but not what I thought. It was like Thai food and not the best but like you have to go because it is famous!! It took a while to even get in but it was so cold outside so it was nice to get inside a building. After the Castle and Elephant Café we had an awkward amount of time so we went to Marks and Spencer’s. It was awesome!! It was like a JCP and H&M but had some good stuff on clearance. By the time we went to leave it was getting dark, so we couldn’t see the coast on the way out of Edinburgh which was too bad. We ended up in a motel which was a big down grade from the cute B&B in Ambleside. Day 62 - (North TRIP DAY 2) Ambleside, Wordsworth House/Trust, Apple Side Café, Hike, and Edinburgh3/22/2018 North Trip Day 2 - We started off the day going to the Wordsworth Trust and house. Since BYU has some connections we get to see the original transcripts of Wordsworth most popular poems. We also took a tour of his house. It was very small and he lived there for 8 years. The photo of the houses was taken from his garden. We want back into town of Ambleside for Lunch. The teachers recommended that Apple side Café. It was really good and not too busy. Also everyone had their dogs inside the restaurants and out on the side walks. We then went on our hike. We passed a sign called the struggle and we thought it was funny because the struggle is real! The teachers got lost on the hike and ended up going up really high on the mini mountain compared to the group the other teacher took this morning. But our hike was very pretty with many sheep and cows on the way. All the houses are so cute. After the hike we went back to the town were Wentworth lived which was a 8 min drive out of Ambleside to walk around and see his grave for a few mins before we go to Edinburgh. It was dark on the ride to Edinburgh so it was too bad that we couldn’t see. We started to watch North and South a BBC TV show on the bus as a group since it is about what we are talking about. It was very good but we only go through two episodes.
Day 61 - (NORTH TRIP DAY 1) Iron Brigde, Preston Temple, First Baptisms, Lake District and Ambleside3/21/2018 Here is the overall trip map and the map for just today. A total for today is 6 hours and total trip is 18 hours. Today was the first day of our North Trip. It was a very long day, we started at 7 am on the bus. In total we spent 6 and half hours on the bus today. Our first stop was the Iron Bridge. We went out of our way to go see this amazing Iron Bridge only to get there and see that it was covered in scaffolding. I got really sick on the bus today. I have need been a person who gets car sick but this whole study aboard I have been so ill. We took a break at the Iron Bridge for 45 mins since that what the law requires for bus drivers breaks. After Iron Bridge we headed to the Preston Temple, it actually isn’t in the town of Preston but we stopped there after the temple. Here is the iron bridge and a picture of the newer houses that we see in the suburbs. Then the temple and a picture of the country side. I have a lot of video about the country side but the coach is going to fast for photos. Our next stop was Preston. These place is important for the early churches missionary. President Hinckley served here and some of the first baptisms were here. The square is where Hinckley stood and preached to the people. The white house was the first place the missionaries lived. My teacher told a horrible story about the night before the first baptism the missionaries were overcome by evil spirits. It was so scary, I will try to find it but it was really scary to think about evil spirts being around all the time. There’s a Japanese garden that the church owns and we visited. The river is where the first baptism took place and on the bridge that morning 7000 people gathered to watch.
Our last place for today was the city of Ambleside in the Lake District. Again I have videos of the country side but not pictures. Words can’t express the beauty of the Lake district. It is so pretty! It is kinda like Montana near flat head like but less people and not really mountains just very large hills. The town of Amble side was so cute! We only had history this morning and then a short meeting about the North Trip. We will be in Scotland for the next 4 days till Saturday night. Some people in the group really wanted to go to Nike and Adidas so we went to the stores. I didn’t get pictures in the stores, but Nike was insane. It was 3 levels and so fancy That’s why the close cost so much. Here are some cute streets we passed along the way.
After the stores we were close to 221B Baker Street from the BBC Sherlock TV Series. Then we went to Abbey Road from the Beatles Album. It was on a busy road so we didn’t get the best photos. We figured it wasn’t worth getting hit to take a cliché photo. The neighborhood around Abbey Road is actually really nice. It is quiet and has cute houses. On the way home, we got Ben’s Cookies! They are so good! I wasn’t in a rush to get home since I finished all my homework and presentation that were due yesterday and this morning. I already got my grades back for some of it. While they aren’t horrible they aren’t what I would like but I think most people are thinking the same thing. Today we just had Westminster Abbey and class. There was no photos allowed on the inside so you will have to just look it up online. It wasn’t in big as I thought it would be. It was still very fancy and cool that Kate and William got married here. Now we have been where Diana and Kate were married and where Megan and Harry are getting married next month. It is cool to walk down the middle of the abbey and recognize it from Kate and Will's wedding. The outside looks like a lot of it has slowly been replaced because of the bright white stones. I didn’t take this photo, I obeyed the rules but apparently this is Joseph Addison. There is one of his poems in the Hymn Book.
